Pour la 10ème édition du Short & Sweet, nous dirigeons notre attention vers les danseurs de Montréal. Normalement, nous invitons 25 chorégraphes à créer des courtes pièces. Cette fois-ci, nous lançons l’invitation aux danseurs locaux de prendre en charge Short & Sweet en leur donnant carte blanche sur scène. En inversant le processus de création vers les interprètes choisis pour leur talent, que nous avons tous remarqué et aimé lors de performances récentes, nous espérons apporter une reconnaissance à leur importance dans le processus de travail chorégraphique, à leur talent en mouvement ainsi qu’à leur donner la possibilité d’exprimer leur potentiel en tant que créateurs.

For the 10th edition of Short & Sweet, we’ll be turning our attention towards the dancers of Montreal. In the past, we have normally invited 25 choreographers to create short pieces for the event. But this time around we have decided to invite local dancers to take over the Short & Sweet stage.  By turning the process over to some of the talented interpreters we’ve all seen and loved in recent performances, we hope to bring recognition to their importance in the process of choreographic work, showcase their abilities as movers, and give them the opportunity to explore their potential as creators in their own right.

Sasha Kleinplatz showed an except of her work Chorus II at Parcours Danse in December.   The event is organized by Danse sur la Routes de Quebec and introduces the work of local choreographers to dance presenters from across Quebec and Canada.  The piece was very well received so be sure to check out the full length version premiering at the MAI this coming April.  Great pic from the Parcours performance by Jasmine Allan-Côté.

Wants&Needs danse were nominated for a Notable Quebec awards celebrating young professionals making a difference in their communities.  We didn’t win but it was great to be nominated and represent dance in the Arts&Culture Category.  Congratulations to Dan Seligman from POP Montreal who won the award and thanks to everyone who gave their support by voting for us!

We hosted another amazing edition of Short&Sweet on Nov 28.   Artists took risks in their propositions and there was such a great energy in the room!  It was one of the most exciting editions of Short&Sweet ever with contemporary African dance, Vogueing fierceness, dancing on the bar and a real live mosh pitt!!!   Great photos of the event as always by Celia Spenard-Ko.  Click the link to read a review of the night from “Ma mère était hipster”

Pour la 8e édition de Short&Sweet et suite à leur événement réussi de l’an dernier au FTA, Wants&Needs Danse prend d’assaut une fois de plus le Quartier Général du Festival TransAmériques. Cette année, le thème est Duos insolites. Wants&Needs met les chorégraphes à l’épreuve en leur demandant de créer une nouvelle œuvre de courte durée en collaboration avec un professionnel œuvrant à l’extérieur de leur discipline artistique habituelle : un musicien, un artiste visuel, un scientifique ou même un voyant!

25 chorégraphes et leurs collaborateurs ont carte blanche pour créer ce qui leur chante…mais…une seule règle : la performance ne doit pas dépasser 3 minutes! Fidèle à la tradition, le chronométreur de la soirée n’aura aucun scrupule à immédiatement couper lumières et musique aux artistes qui dépasseront le délai imparti.

Le but de la série Short&Sweet est de pousser les chorégraphes à réfléchir sur ce qui peut être accompli à l’intérieur de la contrainte de temps et à avoir une gestuelle très précise. Ayant lieu dans une ambiance décontractée de style cabaret, Short&Sweet permet aux spectateurs de voir la danse dans un contexte autre qu’une salle de spectacle traditionnel

For the 8th edition of Short&Sweet, Wants&Needs danse once again takes over the Quartier Général of the Festival TransAmériques (following their successful event during last year’s festival). This time around, the theme is “strange pairings”. Wants&Needs have asked choreographers to challenge themselves by working with a musician /visual artist / scientist / psychic (!) or anyone else outside of their normal artistic practice to create their short pieces.

Choreographers and their collaborators will have carte blanche to create whatever they want… as long as it is under 3 minutes. As usual, a timekeeper is present for the event and artists going over the allotted timeframe will have their music and lights immediately cut off!

We are excited about the theme of this edition of Short&Sweet and are hoping to see lots of surprises as these “Strange Pairings” take to the stage for the first time.
